| Simone: In this lesson you're going to learn to talk about the weather. |
| Csaba: The conversation takes place at Anne’s apartment. |
| Simone: It’s between Anne and Balázs. |
| Csaba: And they use informal language. |
| Simone: Let’s listen to the conversation. |

| Simone: Here you go, a bit of elevator chitchat for you. |
| Csaba: The weather. Talking about it is just as lame in Hungarian, as it is in English. But it is a good time filler and it always provides things to complain about. |
| Simone: That’s for sure, especially spring weather in Hungary. |
| Csaba: Right. Early spring days can go from snow to rain to heat in one day. Summer is just hot, not much variation there. |
| Simone: Well, it is the middle of the continent, and you can’t expect exotic weather in Europe. |
| Csaba: That is true. All in all, the weather is pretty tolerable, not too cold in winter and only super-hot for a few weeks in summer. |
| Simone: Fair enough. Let's take a look at the vocabulary for this lesson. The first word we shall see is |

| Simone: Could you use in a longer sentence? |
| Csaba: Végre itt a nyár! |
| Simone: “Finally, summer is here.” |
| Csaba: Végre itt a nyár! |
| Simone: We wish. Anyway, let’s move on. |
| Csaba: We also heard ilyen. |
| Simone: Which means “such, like this.” Put it in a sentence, please! |
| Csaba: A good idiom first: Ilyen az élet. |
| Simone: “Such is life” or “life is like this.” |
| Csaba: Ilyen az élet. This is used when something bad happens to you but you are already content with all that. You just note that... |
| Simone: Ilyen az élet. |
| Csaba: “That’s life for you.” |
| Simone: Let’s move on. |
| Csaba: There is also olyan, which means “like that.” |
| Simone: Can you use it in a sentence? |
| Csaba: Az enyém nem olyan. |
| Simone: “Mine is not like that.” |
| Csaba: Az enyém nem olyan. |
| Simone: All right. |
| Csaba: Finally we had the verb unja. |
| Simone: “Bored of.” |
| Csaba: In Hungarian, “being bored of something” is expressed by using a verb and its object. |
| Simone: Let’s hear one. |
| Csaba: Unom az iskolát. |
| Simone: “I am bored of school.” |
| Csaba: Unom az iskolát. |
| Simone: The first person singular is unom. |
| Csaba: Right. Another example is unja az előadást. |
| Simone: “He is bored of the lecture.” |
| Csaba: Unja az előadást. |
| Simone: Alright, let's go to the grammar point. |

| Simone: In this lesson, you're going to learn to talk about the weather. |
| Csaba: Weather phenomena are always a bit irregular in every language, but in this lesson we’re going to make it all clear. |
| Simone: How do you say “weather” in Hungarian? |
| Csaba: There are two words you may use, one is időjárás, and the other one, a more spoken language version, is idő. |
| Simone: Give us a simple sentence. “It's nice weather.” |
| Csaba: Jó idő van. |
| Simone: “It's nice weather.” |
| Csaba: Jó idő van. |
| Simone: All right, let’s go to bad weather now. |
| Csaba: Rossz idő van. |
| Simone: “It's bad weather.” |
| Csaba: Rossz idő van. |
| Simone: From now on, you can just put any kind of relevant adjective into this sentence. |
| Csaba: When it’s raining, you say: Esik az eső. |
| Simone: This means: “it’s raining.” |
| Csaba: Esik az eső. This is often shortened to: Esik. |
| Simone: Esik. |
| Csaba: Right. The literal translation of this one word is “it falls.” Now, when you talk about snow, you want to say: Esik a hó. |
| Simone: “It is snowing.” |
| Csaba: Esik a hó. Hó is snow. This also shows up as a verb: Havazik. |
| Simone: "It's snowing." Repeat that please. |
| Csaba: Havazik. |
| Simone: Finally, let’s hear a question too. “What’s the weather like?” |
| Csaba: Milyen idő van? |
| Simone: Again, please. |
| Csaba: Milyen idő van? |
| Simone: Milyen is “what is it like,” right? |
| Csaba: Well remembered. |
