Eric: First is a word meaning 'how many'. |
Lena: [Normal] hány [Slow] hány |
Eric: Next is the word meaning 'years old'. |
Lena: [Normal] éves [Slow] éves |
Eric: Last is the word meaning 'you are'. |
Lena: [Normal] vagy [Slow] vagy |
Eric: Note the rising intonation. Listen again to the informal question meaning 'How old are you?'. |

In polite sentences/questions we use the third person singular form of verbs.
You're right!
'van' is missing in your example. This is a rule, should be memorized.

Question: Why is there a difference in inserting a verb when using "Hány éves vagy?" versus "Ön hány éves?" Why is the verb "to be" vagy eliminated in the polite form?
